Neonatology

Our modern and comfortable Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) features advanced equipment for monitoring sick and/or premature newborns, providing the full range of neonatal treatment. The NICU is fully serviced by trained neonatologists, round the clock neonatal resident doctors, NICU trained nurses, paediatricians and paediatric surgeons for long term follow up of premature babies.

Fortis Clinique Darné’s NICU staff is trained in neonatal care. Taking into consideration infant’s hypersensitivity to the environment, dim-lighting, reduced noise levels, special bedding and skin-to-skin contact between parent and child are facilitated to help in the growth and development of babies. Skin-to-skin contact is promoted between child and parent; this allows parents to interact closely with their babies and in turn, helps the healing process.

Our nursing team provides expert and compassionate care from delivery through discharge, providing parents with in-depth education on infant care, feeding, health concerns and home care needs. Nurses follow up after discharge on the phone or in person to make sure that everything is going well.

"The Nest" also comprises the Well-Baby Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU consists of three levels of care - NICU Level 1, level 2 and level 3. Fortis Clinique Darné Level I NICU cares for healthy full-term babies, Level II offers care for babies born at greater than 32 weeks gestation and recovering from more serious conditions and the Level III NICU offers advanced care, including assisted ventilation and Continued Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to very sick newborns and pre-term babies. CPAP uses mild air pressure to keep an airway open in neonates suffering from respiratory distress.

The Well-Baby Unit is for a baby born without any complications. The baby is roomed in with the mother after spending about 1 hr in the incubator care. The staff at "The Nest" is there to help the mother in breastfeeding and to assist parents in taking care of the baby.
